My Ugly Rosacea Face Rash – Learnings PART 2

This is a continuation and update from my first article about The Rash: My Ugly Rosacea Face Rash is Making Me a Better Person, if you’d like to read that first. But it’s not essential, as the story and learnings here are huge on their own!

Bex Rash Before and After Keto OS
The Rash – 2 Months Ago                                              The Rash – Today

The Rash has been with me on and off again for the last 2 years, and I’ve gotten to know it as one of the key signals my body gives me to let me know how it’s feeling inside.

When I’m stressed and/or make wrong food choices for a while, etc, The Rash makes an appearance and then I know it’s time to rebalance myself, my mind and my habits. Just like a stomach ache, headache, fatigue, or any other symptom, The Rash is a gentle friend showing me that I’m off course. I also realised my stress was largely due to my focus on my diet, and my world travels reminded me that food is only #4 of The Primal 6, NOT #1.

Thoughts are Most Important

After traveling in Europe and Mexico, I noticed how people didn’t obsess over food like we do, and how their health and vitality seemed to be well maintained by their mindset. They focused more on family, enjoyment, passion, purpose, contribution, relaxation, and community.

So that’s where I turned my focus. I took a break from Primal Health, reading articles, seeing health practitioners, monitoring my diet. And I turned my attention to my own family, enjoyment, passions, purpose, contribution, relaxation and community.

It was this change that led me to start my own Reconnect To Your Joy business, with in-person group courses that reminded the myself and others that the joy we are looking for is not outside of us, it’s already within us. I had reconnected to my joy and now I’m sharing it!

Thank you Face Rash for taking me on a health journey that led back to #1 – Thoughts, and living my purpose and contributing in even more ways!

I recently had a few sessions with a naturopath friend and got two great things out of it.
1/ I’m drinking infused herbs like Nettle, Clover and Oatstraw to give my body extra nutrition it misses because of poor digestion. I’m also taking bitter herbs before eating sometimes, to help me digest.
2/ When I started keeping a diary of my symptoms for our sessions to see what helped and hindered, I got stressed again about everything I ate, sleeping habits, toxins, and The Rash. This led to another huge learning from The Rash:

What We Focus On is What We Get

The minute I started focusing on my symptoms again, to try to fix them, they got worse. I was bloated more often, The Rash got redder. In my Reconnect To Your Joy courses, I teach others that what we put our attention on is our intention. Like attracts like. The Law of Attraction. I had practiced this so much with my thoughts and yet hadn’t realised I was doing it with my health.

How long had I been telling myself that my gut is damaged and leaky, that I have poor digestion, that I can’t absorb nutrients well, that I have lots of food intolerances, and that I have The Rash? A long time!

So I’ve changed my tune. My body is actually incredibly healthy. I am a healthy weight, I have beautiful skin on 99% of my body, I have tons of energy, my mind is clear, I am strong and getting stronger and healthier every day! This mindset has led to me finally wanting to use my body more for physical fitness, and I think that’s helping The Rash too!

Movement is Not Just For Weight Loss

My naturopath friend suggested that it would really help my digestion to move my body more. Of course, Brad had been ‘nagging’ me about that for years, since I became more and more inactive, but I’m often stubborn about accepting hubby advice. 🙂 This time though, hearing it from an outsider who wasn’t a fitness professional, a light bulb went off.

For years, I’d been focusing so much on my diet, sleep, water, breathing, and mindset, but had largely ignored the 5th component of the Primal 6 – Movement. Aside of dancing in the kitchen sometimes, and occasional phases of going to yoga classes, I wasn’t regularly moving my body with purpose.

I knew I liked walking, so I started taking my walking shoes with me in the car each day, as a reminder to go for a walk in nature. Immediately, my moods perked up huge, my digestion felt great, and I could swear The Rash wasn’t as flared and red as often.

I signed up for the Coastrek 30 km walk as further motivation to continue increasing my fitness. It was going to take a lot of positive thinking though, as staircases still left me panting, and weight training with Brad would surely leave me sore for days. But then I had another learning…

Modern Life Requires Flexibility on Being Primal

Around the same time, my husband Brad came across a natural supplement that puts the body into a state of Ketosis in less than an hour, something that you have to be incredibly disciplined to do with diet, but is extremely beneficial for the body. Ketosis is a state our primal bodies would have been in a lot in primal times, due to intermittent fasting when there was no food supply, and from hunters and herdsmen consuming lots of fat and minimal carbohydrates.

We haven’t used a powdered drink supplement in many years, preferring to focus on the Primal 6 with whole foods, and at first it just didn’t seem Primal enough to take this powder from a packet. But hey, I eat and do plenty of unprimal things in this modern world! And I’d taken plenty of other supplements during my gut healing protocol.

I was seeing that because our lives and environments are not very primal anymore, supplements can be a great support for our health. Plus, I couldn’t ignore the results people were getting, so I tried the Keto OS.

After only a couple of days taking it, I was stoked with the energy and stamina I had for exercise (since I hadn’t in ages!), and how my muscles don’t hurt after doing weight workouts and circuits with Brad.

AND guess what, The Rash started changing immediately! I’ve now been taking it for a couple of weeks, and my digestion is getting better, my mind is even more clear and focused, I’m not craving my intolerant foods as much AND look at The Rash – it’s nearly gone!

The Rash – 2 Months Ago                                              The Rash – Today

So, What Heals My Rosacea Face Rash?

The simple answer is:
Continuing to focus on thoughts and actions that make me feel good, which leads my body to find its balance.

The complex answer is:
Here are the thoughts and actions that I feel are leading my body to finding balance and my rash disappearing –

1/ Positive thoughts and talk about myself, my life, my body, my health and The Rash. Gratitude, Appreciation, and Anticipation for wonderful things to continue to come.

2/ Following my purpose in life, helping others and bringing people together in joy and health.

3/ Nurturing my relationships with myself and others, and my connection to my tribes and my community.

4/ Eating intuitively. Asking myself if I really want it, or want to continue eating it. Does it spark joy? How does it make me feel right now? Enjoying food and removing guilt and not using labels like ‘bad’ or ‘junk’ with foods that I like to eat occasionally.

5/ Drinking infused herbs to offer my body extra nutrients to be and feel the best it can. Using digestive enzymes, slippery elm, digestive teas, and other aids to support my body when it feels right. No protocols, no rules, just love and support.

6/ Drinking Keto OS to give my body exogenous ketones which are helping my gut health and movement abilities, which in turn puts my body and skin into a balanced state!

The Effects of Magnesium and Calcium on Blood Quality After Beer and Coffee

FREE YOU TUBE VIDEO – Duration: 2:19min

Want to see something really cool? Look at how powerful magnesium and calcium are on the blood stream! My friend Maz Compton and I are at it again, this time to show the positive effect that a supplement called ‘7.2 – Recovery’ can have on your blood, after the negative effect drinking beer and coffee had on our blood. This was measured using Dark Field Microscopy, also known as Live Blood Analysis. Dr Ranga Premaratna from World of Health in Sydney Australia, performed the tests.

I first started using this supplement several years ago after much internal debate, as I’ve been anti supplements for many years since taking a holistic approach, when studying to become a high level CHEK Practitioner with Paul Chek. I’m still very pro ‘organic food first’, but after doing these tests many times now, I’m sold on supplements like Recovery. I’m keen to test another one soon called Keto OS. Look out for it!

Brad has made several other videos with Dr Ranga Premaratna in the past outside of this video.
– Watch here, the previous video made showing the effects of beer and coffee on blood quality!
– This video also shows the effects of a 5 minute meditation on blood quality. It’s amazing!
– Want to stop eating sugar? Watch this video showing the effects of eating jelly beans!

Check out this other video I’ve made too, showing former World Champion surfer Tom Carroll, testing the effects of Recovery with it’s ability to enhance our ability to hold our breath underwater!

As mentioned, I plan to do more tests with Dr. Ranga. The next will be with a supplement again called Keto OS.

Parasites 101

Don’t freak out, but you should know it’s very possible that you have a parasite. You may only think of parasites as something that gives you diarrhea on holiday in a tropical third-world country, but actually, parasites are just as rampant in the Western world, and are related to illness and disease of ALL kinds. Yes, even we, your gurus for all things Primal, have both had parasites that have significantly affected our health.

Parasites have been a subject of interest for many years now, especially since Brad started studying the work of Paul Chek and obtaining many certifications as a CHEK Practitioner. To learn more about parasites, we met with a legend in the world of Parasitology, Dr. Omar Amin. He’s the Professor of Parasitology and founder of the Parasitology Center, Inc. (PCI) in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona just happened to be our last stop on a 7 month world trip, and we knew that we had certainly picked up some new bugs whilst traveling in Japan, Europe, Mexico and the USA. We left Dr. Amin’s office with a wealth of new information AND a specially formulated botanical remedy to give us relief from our own parasites. Brad has had issues with pinworms/threadworms on and off for many years and Bex more recently with Dientamoeba Fragilis.

Mr parasites himself, Dr.Omar Amin, with Bex and Brad at his home in Scottsdale Arizona.
Bex and Brad with Dr. Omar Amin (center) at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Symptoms of Parasite Infection

The most common indicators that you may have a parasite are: diarrhea, constipation, bloating, cramps, indigestion, mucus, fatigue, nausea, skin rash, dry cough, headaches, allergies, joint pain, memory loss, and brain fog.

But it hardly stops there. Other symptoms can include:

Abdominal pain, lethargy, excessively dry or itchy skin, itchy nose or anus, depression, chronic mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, waking a lot during the night, grinding teeth during sleep, inability to lose or gain weight, uncontrollable hunger OR loss of appetite, muscle pain or cramping, numbness of hands and/or feet, arthritis, fast heartbeat, bad breath, excessive body odor, anemia, hypoglycemia, sexual impotence, yeast and urinary tract infections, cysts and fibroids.

How do parasites cause illness and disease?

They take nutrients away from their host (you, in this case), and produce toxic waste called mycotoxins. Parasites can occur anywhere in your body – every organ, tissue and even in your blood – and they can cause symptoms that mimic other disorders. So you may have been treated by your doctor for many different problems over your lifetime, but because they were never diagnosed as being parasite related, the parasitic infection may continue to affect your health in various ways.

How do we get parasites?

Parasites are all around and can enter your body through food, water (drinking/touching), insects, air, pets, people and soil. There’s no use worrying excessively about trying to avoid them, but there are lots of simple sanitary precautions and lifestyle habits that will minimise your risk of contracting a parasite, such as washing your hands and vegetables, drinking filtered water, chewing your food well, avoiding antibiotics, taking care of your digestive system, and not biting your nails or kissing your pets. In general, the stronger your immune system is to prevent parasites creating a home within your system, the better the chance you have of preventing them from getting too comfortable within your internal environment.

How do you know if you have a parasite?

If you are suffering from some of the symptoms above, take this Parasite Questionnaire. If your score is 15 or higher, parasites may be affecting your health.

It would be wise to then contact PCI directly or an integrative doctor or naturopath for further consultation and possible lab testing. The ‘Full GI Panel’ is the number one test Dr. Omar Amin offers.

One thing to be aware of with parasite testing is that results can often be inaccurate. You may get an incorrect negative result, as many types of parasites are not detected by common stool tests, and parasites are cyclical so may not show up every time. Or you may get an incorrect positive result as undigested food particles can look like certain parasites, as you can see in these parasite test photos at the bottom of the page. For this reason, it’s best to test with experts in parasitology, such as PCI. Or if your symptoms have been chronic for a long time, then consider starting parasite treatment even if your test results are negative. As Brad has learned from Paul Chek, there are over 1000 parasites that can affect the human body. Common stool tests may only test for 9-12 of the most common ones.

How do you treat a parasite infection?

The million dollar question. Even when people finally discover that a parasite is the cause of their problems, figuring out how to safely and effectively treat the infection can be an even bigger challenge.

Antibiotics
Parasites are often treated with antibiotics, but these drugs are harsh on your system, weaken your body, and kill off the beneficial bacteria in your system which helps keep the parasites at bay in the first place. So the parasite may go away for awhile after antibiotics, but re-infection is common. A vicious cycle, really.

Bex experienced this personally when she took antibiotics to treat her Dientamoeba Fragilis. Her parasite seemed to go away, and symptoms were temporarily relieved, but have now returned. We also learned from Dr. Amin that D. Fragilis is a type of parasite that ‘sits on the line’, so often only an immune compromised person will show a positive result. So maybe her parasite never actually left.

Dietary changes
Following a primal diet of real whole foods is definitely key in preventing and treating parasite infections. However, once the infection is deep and long-lasting (usually when the symptoms get worse/obvious), most people find dietary changes alone can’t treat the parasite problem. You can be assured, however, that if you take a medical or botanical remedy but don’t also change your diet and lifestyle, parasite reinfection is very common.

Natural Remedies
For years, we have tried using many natural anti-parasitic substances as part of level 3 and 4 of our Primal Cleanse. These include oregano oil, wormwood, detox teas, Naturopathic Tinctures, Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide and Diatomaceous Earth. Other known remedies are black walnut hulls, cloves, pumpkin seed oil, garlic, neem, thyme, and marshmallow root. However, knowing how to use these properly, in what combination and proper dosages is really just a guessing game for people like us. And we’ve heard that many of the expensive commercial formulas in the shops don’t work very well. Dr. Amin also warns, “The body understands and wants consistency. When you try too many things all the time, it confuses your body.”

This is what we are currently taking for our parasite infections

Needless to say, we were really excited to meet a holistic-minded parasitologist who has worked hard to create completely natural and plant-based formulas which are helping thousands of people all over the world get relief from their parasite infections. We decided to take Dr. Amin’s formulas, called Freedom, Cleanse, Restore, for 3 months. At the time of writing, we’ve been taking it for 2 months.

Freedom, Cleanse, Restore parasite protocol.
Freedom, Cleanse, Restore parasite protocol.

As mentioned, we’d just returned from traveling the world for 7 months. We could certainly recognise the return of our previous parasitic symptoms, so we are looking forward to seeing how this remedy works for us. If Dr. Amin’s credentials and the testimonials are anything to go by, we think we’ve found a winner.

Note: We do not receive any commissions for mentioning this remedy, and are not qualified to prescribe anything to you. We simply believe in natural health solutions and are happy to recommend good ones when we find them!

Dr. Amin told us that this treatment is designed to work for all known species of parasites, including single-celled organisms, worm parasites, fungus and pathogenic bacteria. However, he greatly advises parasite testing to be sure that your symptoms are parasite related and also to see what type and how chronic the infection is, to regulate dosage and length of treatment.

He recommended no less than 3 months of taking the remedy, which may seem long to you and so many of us who are used to quick fixes. But the body is complex, and slow and steady often wins the race, especially when it comes to healing.

When you might have to keep your parasites

Dr. Amin corrects us when we say ‘eradication’, as there is no such thing. Only homeostasis, or balance. If we can keep parasites at low levels (and our system strong), they don’t cause problems.

You see, our bodies are designed to live in balance with low levels of foreign bacteria, which we accumulate from our environment after birth. It is only when this relationship becomes ‘imbalanced’ – that is beneficial for one but detrimental to the other – that it becomes parasitic.

In some instances, however, Dr. Amin warns that fungus and parasites can actually be beneficial to your body and should not be treated yet. The example he gives us is of Candida, which can be very harmful to the body. However, candida protects against heavy metal poisoning by metabolising the heavy metal and carrying it out of the body. So people with heavy metal poisoning would actually benefit from having candida!

It gets worse before it gets better

As often occurs in healing, once you start a remedy, you may feel worse at first. As your parasites die off and your body slowly flushes them out, you may experience more severe symptoms such as sharp intestinal pains or cramps, fatigue and grogginess, nausea, swelling, and foul smelling gas. Be assured that this is only temporary and is actually a good sign – it means that the remedy is working! Relief is on the way :). Brad has had this happen several times during our Primal Seasonal Cleanses, resulting in large amounts amounts of inflammation and swelling around the lymph node areas, and even the face.

Whatever you do, don’t discontinue the remedy as soon as you start feeling better. The danger is that there is still a residual population of parasites which can mutate into drug-resistant strains which are extremely hard to treat.

Bex and Brad – Parasites 101 – 2015

POOP: What To Do if You Don’t Have At Least One a Day

Poop: What to do if you don't have at least one a day

In a perfectly primal world where our bodies thrive in pristine health, this is something that comes as naturally as breathing, and we wouldn’t ever have to think about it. But today, millions of people develop disease which often starts from not doing this incredibly important daily ritual: pooping.

Why must we poop every single day?

We often say, “You are what you eat.” But I’d like to contend that we actually are not so much what we eat, as what we hold on to. On one hand, this can refer to emotional baggage that we hold onto which creates physical illness. On the other hand, this means that it’s not only the food that determines your health, it’s what your body does with the food. When your system is running smoothly, it digests the food completely, absorbing (holding on to) all the nutrients and eliminating the leftover waste. However, when your system is malfunctioning, it not only doesn’t hold on to all the nutrients, it doesn’t eliminate the waste.

What happens if you don’t take out the trash? It rots! It continues to decay, making your house a toxic dump. And it’s exactly the same in your guts. If your body doesn’t ‘take out the trash’ by expelling waste every day, your guts become a toxic dump of decaying waste matter, inviting fungus and parasites to come feast on all the ‘crap’. Yes, it’s digusting and yes, it’s deadly!

Poop: What to do if you don't have at least one a day

What causes constipation?

Infrequent pooping is called constipation. I have read definitions of constipation as pooping less than 3 times a week, but since I’ve just told you that you must poop at least once a DAY, let’s forget about definitions and start listening to our body if it’s not pooping every day. Ok? So, if constipation is a symptom of a sluggish bowel, what is the cause? There are many, including but not limited to:

– Poor diet
– Poor sleep
– Poor breathing
– Dehydration
– Medications
– Hormones
– Stress

As with addressing all symptoms, this means you must look at how you are attending to your Primal 6. In addition, here are some quick and effective ways to get those bowels moving again!

10 Ways to Ensure You Poop Every Day

1/ Don’t rush through your morning.
Morning is the body’s favourite time to eliminate waste, usually right after waking up or right after breakfast. However, if you spend your morning rushing around and out of the house, your body won’t have time to take out the trash!

So wake up earlier, schedule things later, prepare clothes and breakfast the night before…whatever it takes to have a more relaxing morning for your bowels.

2/ Drink a glass of water right when you wake up. Then all day long.
One of the most common causes of constipation is dehydration, and it only takes one day of low water intake to have a dehydrated colon.

So drink plenty of water all day, starting right when you wake up to signal your bowels of new things entering, so it will get old things exiting! More stubborn bowels may need warmer water, and a squeeze of lemon in the water can help too.

3/ Do belly breathing first thing in the morning.
Lie on a foam roller or just sit quietly for 5 minutes and breathe deeply through your nose, expanding your belly with each breath. This will send more oxygen into your system to get things working better, and also stimulate flow in your digestive area.

You can do this anytime during the day, but upon waking works best as it stimulates that perfect morning poo.

4/ Do holding squats and/or breathing squats. Get moving!
Get down into a full squat (if you can), holding onto furniture if you need to keep from falling backward, and stay there for several minutes or as long as you can.

You can also try breathing squats, breathing out through your nose as you squat down and breathing in through your nose and you stand up. Continue to stand and squat in rhythm with your breathing rate.

Keep moving your body in any way throughout the day. A good brisk walk is often enough to get your bowels moving. Here are ways to get more movement into your day without making time for it.

5/ Squat at the toilet
Get a squatty potty, or simply put a wide stool under your feet when you are sitting on the toilet. This puts you in a squat position, opening up the bend in the lower part of your colon so the waste can easily slide right out. Until you have a stool, lean forward, rest your elbows on your knees and lift up onto your tiptoes.

6/ Eat a big ass breakfast
This is especially crucial for people who tend to poop after breakfast instead of upon wake-up (though good for everyone!). Sit down while you eat and don’t rush out the door too soon after – give your body time to digest, relax and let go of yesterday’s waste.

Don’t forget that processed grains like instant oats, commercial breads and breakfast cereal are not a healthy meal, but rather are often a cause of the constipation in the first place. If you need more convincing, read my article on breakfast cereal.

7/ Eat a balance of animal and plant food all day
If you’ve heard anything about constipation, it’s fiber, fiber, fiber. Let me set this straight. Yes, a diet rich in fiber is an important part of maintaining healthy bowel movements. However, there are two caveats.

One, there is far more fiber in fruits and vegetables than in grains, and far less digestive issues resulting from the fruits and veg. Two, if you are already constipated, adding more fiber is likely to plug you up more, as shown in this study on fibre and constipation.

So, avoid processed grains and fiber supplements. Get your fiber from vegetables and fruits, and balance that with good quality protein and fat.

8/ Manage your stress
Assess your emotions, schedule, personal needs, finances, relationships, beliefs and  health obsessions. Stress is a leading cause of constipation and other digestive issues and diseases.

Learn simple meditation, try Qi Gong, change your work mindset, and get some sleep!

9/ Take magnesium before bed
Magnesium relaxes the bowel muscles and also attracts water to the bowels, softening the poo for easier elimination. Therefore, magnesium supplements have a great reputation for relieving constipation. Just ensure you choose a high quality supplement with little to no fillers. Take your magnesium right before bed, so you can have a nice poo in the morning.

10/ Swallow some slippery elm
If you are still having constipation issues, there are a couple natural supplements that you can take for a short time to unblock your bowel. One tablespoon of slippery elm in water before bed can be very effective. For severe or prolonged constipation, Cascara Sagrada has a laxative effect. Both can be purchased over the counter at most health food/vitamin stores, and are for short term use only, while you get busy with your Primal 6 so you don’t get constipated again.

5 Easy & Cheap Ways to Detox

5 Easy & Cheap Ways to Detox

A detox doesn’t have to be a complicated, expensive or difficult process. Actually, there are ways you can detoxify your body in less than 5 minutes with nothing more than a spoon or sponge. No matter how careful we are with our diet and lifestyle choices, there are still many toxins in our environment which accumulate in our bodies. So just as you regularly clean your house and your teeth, it’s important to regularly clean out your body. During my recent stay at The Sanctuary in Mexico, I learned 5 ridiculously easy and cheap ways to detox that I have started doing for myself and think you’ll love too.

5 Easy & Cheap Ways to Detox

Tongue Scraping

WHY IT’S DETOXIFYING: This simple ayurvedic* hygiene practice removes bacteria and toxins that accumulate on the tongue overnight, to prevent you from ingesting them again.  It also stimulates and cleanses the digestive tract and the vital organs, through acupressure points on the tongue.  So not only is it good for oral hygiene, it also supports the natural detoxification of your entire system.

TIME NEEDED: 30 seconds

WHEN: First thing in the morning

EQUIPMENT: a stainless steel (metal) spoon

HOW: Open your mouth and use the spoon to scrape your tongue from back (as far back as comfortable) to front in long firm strokes, rinsing the spoon in between each stroke. Do this until your tongue feels free of coating, then rinse your mouth with clean water and spit.

WHAT I THINK: It was amazing to see how much gunk came off my tongue sometimes! I often have strong morning breath, and tongue scraping already feels like a big help with this. I have also noticed how the thickness of the coating on my tongue is an indicator of the quality of my diet and lifestyle choices.  Plus, this is just so incredibly easy and quick to do, and requires no daily preparation or reminder, since it’s first thing in the morning when I go to the bathroom anyway. I just make sure to always have a spoon near my bathroom sink, so I won’t forget. Easy!

*Ayurveda is a 5000-year-old science of healing which originated in India.

Oil Pulling

WHY IT’S DETOXIFYING: It’s called oil pulling because the oil actually pulls toxins out of your mouth. First, the oil mixes with the saliva, and lipids in the oil pull out toxins from the saliva. As the oil is swished around in the mouth, it continues to absorb toxins. It is also believed that oil pulling stimulates the lymphatic system and aids in the transport of toxins away from vital organs.

TIME NEEDED: 10-15 minutes, but you can do other things at the same time.

WHEN: On an empty stomach, such as before breakfast or a few hours after a meal.

EQUIPMENT: high quality (cold-pressed, extra-virgin) coconut oil, sesame oil or olive oil

HOW: Simply put about a teaspoon of the oil into your mouth and swish it around in your mouth. DO NOT swallow it, as it will be accumulating toxins. Once the oil and saliva start feeling thicker (about 10-15 minutes) in your mouth, spit it out – never down the drain or toilet, only in the garbage bin – then rinse your mouth with fresh water and spit.

WHAT I THINK: I had heard about my friends benefiting from oil pulling, not only for general detoxification, but also to eliminate tooth decay and aid digestion. I love how easy this is, and that I can do other things while I am swishing the oil in my mouth. I like to start swishing soon after I wake up (after tongue scraping), so I can do my 20 minutes of swishing while showering, getting dressed and/or making breakfast.

Dry Skin Brushing (& Wet Skin Sand Brushing)

WHY IT’S DETOXIFYING: Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and also is detoxification organ, like your liver, kidneys and colon. Brushing the skin helps keep the pores clear of debris and dead skin which can get in the way of your body excreting toxins through the skin. Like oil pulling, skin brushing is also thought to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps to move toxins through the body.

TIME NEEDED: 3-5 minutes

WHEN: Before a shower

EQUIPMENT: Natural bristled brush or loofa

HOW: Rub the loofa over your skin across your entire body. It is recommended to work in this order: lower limbs, upper limbs, back, then abdomen – always moving in strokes towards the heart. Brush until your skin is rosy and slightly tingly. Always shower or rinse after you dry brush to wash off the dead skin.

WHAT I THOUGHT: I found the loofa to be very rough and painful on my skin, so I couldn’t do it for more than 15 seconds before I decided it wasn’t for me. Maybe I just need to try a softer loofa, like the ones for washing your body in the shower.

ALTERNATE OPTION: However, I found a fabulous alternative for anyone who has access to a beach. Do your skin brushing with wet sand! Kaiya and I have been doing this several times a week as it is so much fun, feels great – like an expensive spa exfoliation treatment – and when we swim into the ocean to wash it off, our skin feels baby soft.

Dry Skin Brushing only requires a loofa and a few minutes
Dry Skin Brushing only requires a loofa and a few minutes

Far Infra Red Sauna

WHY IT’S DETOXIFYING: Once again, the skin is the largest organ for detoxification, and this is usually done through sweating. However, this type of sauna works better than others because the Far Infra Red heat waves match the frequency of the water in your cells, causing toxins to be released into the blood stream and excreted through the sweat. So not only are you sweating out water, but also plenty of fat soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulphuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid. This unusually high concentration of heavy metals & other fat-soluble toxins is not found in the sweat from normal exercise.

TIME NEEDED: 15-30 minutes

WHEN: Anytime

EQUIPMENT: Far-Infared Sauna

HOW: Take off your clothes, turn on the sauna and sit in it for awhile, getting sweaty. Start with about 10 minutes the first time or two, then you can stay in the sauna a bit longer each time. It’s recommended to drink a large glass of water before and after your sauna, and rest for a bit afterward if needed.

WHAT I THOUGHT: What a great excuse to sit and do nothing. My friend uses her sauna time to read, but because I was all sweaty I didn’t want to read, so it was the perfect chance to meditate, rest, or think without distraction. The heat felt quite good too. After a 20 minute session, I was a tiny bit woozy when standing, so I rested for 15 minutes afterward – this time reading :).

Enema

WHY IT’S DETOXIFYING: Toxic fecal waste called mucoid plaque builds up on the wall of your colon over time, just like plaque builds up on your teeth. Not only does this intestinal plaque become more toxic over time, but it also blocks up the intestinal tract making it more difficult to eliminate waste through normal bowel movements, or poos. The water from the enema loosens that hard debris from your colon walls and flushes it out of your body.

TIME NEEDED: 15-25 minutes

WHEN: Anytime

EQUIPMENT: enema bag (or jug) with attached hose and nozzle; toilet

HOW: Fill the bag (or jug) with water, all the way to the top and pinch the hose with your fingers or a clothespin to stop the water from flowing yet. Hang the bag up on a towel rack or cabinet handle (or put the jug on the bathroom counter).

Kneel down, lower your head toward the floor, and insert the nozzle in your anus. Release the pinch on the hose and allow the water to flow into your colon. If at times it feels too intense or pressure builds from the water flow, simply pinch the hose and wait a minute, then let it flow again until the bag (or jug) is empty.

Then grab your book, sit on the toilet and let it all come out. This part takes about 10-15 minutes and often stops and starts a few times, so just relax and wait until nothing more comes out.

WHAT I THOUGHT: This is by far my new favourite detox method. I should have been doing this years ago! I felt absolutely fantastic afterwards – light as a feather, no more bloat, clear-headed and cleaned out! I did 4 enemas my first week, and now will aim to do it about 2-3 times per month for maintenance. After almost 40 years of eating (plenty of suboptimal food too!), I figure there is plenty of build-up of old toxic waste in my colon. Hail the enema! And I get in some reading time while I’m sitting on the toilet :).

Judging by the popularity of our video of Brad getting a colonic, many of you are realizing the importance of detoxifying your body regularly!

Have you tried any of these detox methods? Tell us about it in the comments below – what did you think?

Hammam – The Turkish Bath experience!

Hammam - The Turkish Bath

Both Bex and I experienced a Turkish Bath or ‘Hammam’ during our time in Turkey. I was a very unique experience to say the least! Check out my short video showing the inside of a Hammam and what was involved. Sorry for the dark video. The lights were very low and it’s essentially a sauna so the camera got fogged up pretty quick. I haven’t been scrubbed so hard by someone since I was a kid!

Here’s a definition of a Turkish Bath from Wikipedia:

“In Western Europe, the “Turkish bath” as a method of cleansing and relaxation became popular during the Victorian era (1837-1901). The process involved in taking a Turkish bath is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to ancient Greek and ancient Roman bathing practices.

The Turkish bath starts with relaxation in a room (known as the warm room) that is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air, allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers may then move to an even hotter room (known as the hot room) before they wash in cold water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation.

The difference between the Islamic hammam and the Victorian Turkish bath is the air. The hot air in the Victorian Turkish bath is dry; in the Islamic hammam the air is often steamy. The bather in a Victorian Turkish bath will often take a plunge in a cold pool after the hot rooms; the Islamic hammam usually does not have a pool unless the water is flowing from a spring. In the Islamic hammams the bathers splash themselves with cold water.”

Do You Have a Leaky Gut? Knowing Could Save Your Health!

Do You Have Leaky Gut?

The term ‘leaky gut’ sounds disgusting and weird, yet more people are learning what it is because so many of us have it! It’s highly possible you do, too. I’ve been living pretty primal for about 7 years, and I’ve discovered I have a very leaky gut which is now starting to cause serious problems. Here’s what I’ve learned that you should know.

Do you have leaky gut?

What is Leaky Gut?

Leaky Gut is the short name for Gastrointestinal Mucosal Hyperpermeability, or Intestinal Permeability. Permeable means things can pass through, and in this case, we’re referring to things passing through the lining of your small intestine.

This lining has mucosal cells that cover the entire length of the small intestine (gastrointestinal tract). Normally these cells are very tightly ‘knit’ together, forming a sort of screen which nothing can pass through. With a leaky gut, microscopic gaps form between these cells, so that some large molecules can pass or ‘leak’ through the gut lining into the blood stream. Hence the name, leaky gut. Imagine a window screen with small holes in it where bugs can now enter through…

How does a Leaky Gut slowly ruin your health?

These large molecules that are now able to leak through the gut into the blood stream are things like partially digested food particles, bacteria, yeasts, and toxins. Yikes.

When these foreign things enter your blood stream, your body signals that there are invaders in the blood stream and starts fighting! Your liver starts working overtime to filter all the toxins and your immune system starts works tirelessly to quickly eliminate the invaders from the body. However, it’s often too much for them to fight against, and the invaders end up absorbing into different tissues, leading to inflammation throughout the body.

That inflammation leads to more immune response! Soon the immune system is too busy constantly fighting the invaders and responding to inflammation to do its usual jobs. Over time, the body ends up attacking its own tissues, leading to all sorts of autoimmune diseases such as chronic fatigue, chron’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, irritable bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, hashimoto’s disease and more.

Thanks to progressive doctors and health practitioners, we know now that our leaky guts are at the root of so many of our illnesses and disease, both physical AND mental. This includes autoimmune disorders, digestive disorders and mental disorders.

Food intolerances caused by a leaky gut

Another very common consequence of a leaky gut is numerous food intolerances. When partially digested food particles are able to leak through the lining of the small intestine into the blood stream, the body sees those foods as invaders, since they are somewhere in the body where they are not supposed to be. To fight the invaders, the body produces little fighting soldiers called antibodies to fight against those food particles.

The more you eat those foods, the more antibodies your body produces, and the more your immune system reacts when you eat those foods. This is why you may have eaten nuts, milk, wheat, eggs or other foods for many years with no problem, but then you suddenly start to have terrible symptoms when you eat them. Your body has become intolerant of those foods, and responds with diarrhea, rashes, fatigue, brain fog, muscle aches, or something else.

What causes Leaky Gut?

The causes of leaky gut are numerous and often debated by experts, but commonly include:

Poor Diet – Regular consumption of refined sugars, flours and other processed foods leads to inflammation and dysbiosis (imbalance of good vs. bad gut bacteria) which leads to leaky gut.

Medications – Prescription drugs, birth control pills, and even over-the-counter pain medications such as tylenol, aspirin and panadol all cause irritation of the intestinal lining. Antibiotics are a huge offender as they kill bad bacteria, but also good bacteria, leading to dysbiosis (imbalance of good vs. bad gut bacteria) which leads to leaky gut.

Chronic Stress – When stress is constant, the immune system gets overworked and cannot keep the digestive system healthy and free from inflammation, which leads to leaky gut.

Yeast – When yeast grows out of control due to a poor diet, medications, stress, etc. it forms fungus (such as candida) that cling to the intestinal lining and create holes, causing leaks in the gut!

Inflammation – Anything that causes inflammation in the gut can cause it to become leaky. Common causes of gut inflammation include environmental toxins, yeast overgrowth, bacterial overgrowth, infections and parasites.

Do you have Leaky Gut?

First, look at the causes above and ask yourself if those things have been a part of your life. Second, here are some common symptoms of leaky gut. How many do you have?

Chronic diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel – These are very common signs of an inflamed gut lining.

Skin rashes – Rashes, including eczema, are the result of your body trying to get rid of excess toxins through your skin.

Nutritional deficiencies – This is from your intestine’s inability to properly breakdown and absorb nutrients from food.

Food sensitivities/intolerances – As I said above, your system develops antibodies to food particles leaking through your gut, creating multiple food intolerances.

Regular sickness/infections – When your immune system is depressed and too busy fighting inflammation, it can’t do its usual job of fending off viruses and bacterias that cause common colds, flu and infections.

Sugar and carb cravings – These cravings are often caused by dysbiosis (bacteria imbalance), parasites and yeast overgrowth.

Headaches, brain fog and/or extreme fatigue – All the result of tissue inflammation and excess toxins.

Also – regular bloating, gas, anxiety, memory loss, depression, stubborn belly fat

Are you looking at all those causes and/or symptoms and nodding your head, getting concerned that indeed you think you do have leaky gut?

Well, I’m a bit excited for you! Because you are reading this, you may now know the cause of your ill health.

You may now be able to take control of your health and not only gradually eliminate your current symptoms, but prevent future autoimmune disorders, physical dysfunction, and debilitating disease!

What to do if you think you have Leaky Gut

Some of you may be motivated enough to start looking into healing your gut now on your own, using the internet and books as resources. But most of you will need confirmation of your leaky gut and some professional guidance, and I recommend this as the better way to go for complete recovery of your gut health.

Find the right health professional

I highly suggest finding a functional medicine/integrative medicine doctor, and/or a naturopath who has experience in healing gut disorders. The Mindd Foundation is a good place to start, as well as The Institute for Functional Medicine, or simply use google. Read some bios, make some phone calls, and choose a practitioner who knows all about guts and how to heal them.

Even though a gastrointestinal doctor may seem like the person to see, those doctors generally only specialise in diagnosing disease, but not healing it. They also don’t use functional diagnostic tests, which is what we need to discuss next…

Get tested

Although you may have enough symptoms for you and your chosen doctor to assume you have leaky gut, it may be beneficial for you to do an intestinal permeability test. This will confirm your leaky gut in your mind, and also tell you how bad the damage is. Ask your doctor for the test referral or kit.

The test is done at home. You drink a special sugar substance mixed in water in the morning, then collect your urine for the next 6 hours (in a very big bag!), and send in a small sample of the urine. If you have a leaky gut, the sugar substance you drank will show up in your urine in varying levels, depending on how leaky your gut is.

The next test that is extremely beneficial is a faecal microbial analysis, which is a fancy way to say they can analyse the bacterial content of your poo. This will tell exactly which bacterias and/or yeasts are overgrown or undergrown in your gut, so you know which is the best course of action for getting your bacteria back in balance. Otherwise, you could be taking probiotics for years and not getting any better because it’s the wrong bacteria! This is also a home test, which simply requires one stool sample.

These tests are not cheap, but in comparison to all the money you will save on trying to recover from illness and disease down the track, they are very good value in my opinion.

You can heal your Leaky Gut

I’ve been through all this myself, and am happy to say I am on the path to recovery. It’s a bit of a long path, but I realise that if it took this long to cause the damage, it’s going to take some patience to undo it. I’m looking for long-term results anyway, not a quick fix, as I want to be healthy in the long-term.

You, too, can heal your gut! It takes some dedication and commitment to your health and care of your body, but anyone can do it. Especially with some professional guidance and a positive attitude.

Here’s how I’m healing my leaky gut

If you’ve been unwell for a long time, or are tired of suffering from symptoms and can’t seem to find the underlying cause, it may be that you have a leaky gut. Just like me, you didn’t know the damage that you were doing to your body, and there’s no point in having regrets. The beauty is that now you can take all of your new knowledge of primal living and heal yourself! And we are here to support you all the way.

Before & After a Detox or Cleanse: What You Need to Do

Before & After a Detox: What You Need To Do

I know I’m not the only one who has binged on alcohol or junk food right before starting a clean-eating program, cleanse or detox. You feel you have to enjoy it now while you can, so might as well spend the weekend binge-eating and partying it up before your cleanse starts on Monday, right?

What you need to do before and after a detox or cleanse

The problem is, you’re setting yourself up for a much harder detox with severe or sudden withdrawal symptoms. You will wake up on Monday unprepared mentally, physically and logistically for a cleanse which is supposed to be rejuvenating for your body and mind, not stressful.

Furthermore,  after eliminating accumulated toxicity from your mind and body during the cleanse, it’s likely you’ll feel different emotionally and physically, so you’ll need to take some measures to slowly ease yourself out of a cleanse.

Whether you are simply eliminating one thing from your diet for awhile, doing a 21 day sugar detox, quitting coffee, doing a juice fast, or a primal seasonal cleanse, here’s what you need to do before and after your detox.

Preparing your body for a cleanse

Slowly decrease your intake of the foods/drinks you will eliminate during the cleanse

Example: Coffee – The killer headaches that come from caffeine withdrawal are enough to put you off ever doing a cleanse again. However, if you slowly decrease your caffeine intake in the days leading up to your cleanse, your headaches will be greatly reduced than if you went from drinking 5 coffees a day to suddenly none. Instead, have one less cup of coffee each day for several days leading up to the cleanse.

Example: Sugar – Sugar is more addictive than cocaine, so it’s rarely something that you can quit cold turkey without withdrawal symptoms such as severe irritability, intense cravings and illness. Slowly decrease the amount of sugary food you eat in the few days to a week leading up to the cleanse.

Eat light and healthy the day before your cleanse starts and get a good night’s sleep

This will get your digestive system ready for the detox, your taste buds ready for nourishing foods, and your body feeling calm and relaxed about making changes.

Preparing your mind for a cleanse

Make a list or chart detailing your plans for the cleanse

List the foods and drinks you want to avoid and another list of the ones you want to introduce. Include any lifestyle changes you plan to make, such as daily meditation, yoga, saunas, colonics, earlier bed time, etc. Put this list up somewhere where you will see it every day, such as on your bedroom mirror, refrigerator or above your work desk.

Make a list of your goals for your cleanse or detox
Make a list of your goals for your cleanse or detox

Think and talk positively about your upcoming cleanse

In the week leading up to your cleanse, get excited for it. Look forward to the break you are giving yourself. When you talk about the cleanse to yourself and others, use a positive attitude and positive language. Focus less on what you are eliminating (sugar, alcohol), and more on what you are adding (healthy food, relaxation). By the time the cleanse starts, you will be in a good mindset for all the positive changes.

Preparing your home  and lifestyle for a cleanse

Stock your kitchen with goodness and throw out the crap

Fill your fridge and pantry with the healthy foods that you want to eat plenty of during your cleanse, and throw out any foods that you won’t be eating during your cleanse. It’s really not worth keeping that box of chocolates for after the cleanse, as they will only tempt you to no end! Throw it all out, or give it away.

Give yourself time before the cleanse starts to buy any supplements, detox teas, oils or herbs you want to use.

Clear the clutter and create coziness

If the cleanse makes you feel irritable, tired, unwell or emotional, the last thing you will want to do is tidy or clean. So clear general clutter and make any simple adjustments at home that will create a cozy, comfortable environment where you will feel like chilling out and nourishing yourself during the cleanse. A cluttered house = a cluttered mind.

Clear your hectic schedule

Again, you may feel worse before you feel better, as your body adjusts to the changes and eliminates toxins. So schedule into your cleanse plenty of down-time and home time for you to rest and rejuvenate. This is not a good time for work deadlines or projects needing great mental focus. This is not a time for grueling workouts, late nights or demanding social engagements. Give yourself a break from your hectic life, and your body and mind will not only better cope with the cleanse, but reap much greater benefits.

Coming out of a cleanse

Schedule yourself enough down-time to reflect

If possible, don’t rush straight back to anything that will cause you stress. It’s common at the end of a cleanse to feel different emotionally, as you’ve cleared out toxins that have weighed down your body and mind. So give yourself enough time and space to process these feelings.

Ease yourself back into any intense physical exercise

If you were already doing some sort of strenuous or aerobic movement before the cleanse, take your time getting back into it. For example, start at low weights and add more each day after the cleanse. Or start with very short periods of aerobic activity and increase your time by 10-15 minutes each day after the cleanse.

Start regular movement if you weren’t doing it before

Regular exercise or movement will help you continue to control your cravings, de-stress your body, and expel those toxins effectively, well after the cleanse is over. Find what type of movement you will do regularly and plan to start it right as your cleanse finishes. Try walking, living room dancing, climbing the stairs to your office, or taking a class at the gym or fitness studio.

Evaluate how the cleanse went and what to change for next time

On the last night of the cleanse, or the day after, sit down and think about your cleanse. You might even want to write down some things like:

What was most challenging?
What was easier than you thought?
How did you feel, mentally and physically?
What did you learn about health and yourself?
What do you want to continue doing in your daily life? What would you like to do the same or differently in your next cleanse?

Remember that change takes time and practice

Ideally, you would continue to eat a healthy diet, live a less hectic life, and nourish your mind and body as much as possible. But don’t beat yourself up if you slip back into some bad habits after the cleanse is over. Change is best when it’s gradual, and doing a cleanse at least every season will help you to gradually make positive diet and lifestyle changes that will be part of your life forever.

Two Tests Rarely Used by Traditional Doctors: Live Blood Analysis and ElectroAcupunture

Live Blood Analysis - Recovery - Seven Point 2 - Dr Ranga Premaratna

Are you frustrated with all the doctor’s tests coming back as ‘normal’ even though you know there is something not right with your health? So many of us suffer with pain or illness for years because the doctors can’t find anything in their tests. Well suffer no more, because there are other tests out there which can be very effective at getting to the bottom of your health problems.

As you may have read in Bex’s article called ‘I Have a Parasite Called Dientomoeba Fragilis’, she had to take the next step in assessing her body with other types of doctors and tests, when our standard Primal questionnaires and the standard doctor’s blood tests weren’t helping. In this interview, Brad speaks at length with Dr. Ranga Premaratna about his unique holistic approach, and the two main tests he uses to get to the bottom of some of the nasty health issues that so many of us are suffering from.

Note: This is a loose transcription of the video ‘Two Tests Rarely Used by Traditional Doctors: Live Blood Analysis and ElectroAcupunture ’

Brad: G’day Primal People! It is Brad Rasmus here again. Last time, you saw me I was half naked on a table getting a colonic hydrotherapy session. Today, I am fully clothed and I am in Mosman–a suburb of Sydney at a place called ‘World of Health‘ with Dr. Ranga Premaratna. He has a PhD in Food and Nutritional Science and about 30 years experience in the field of health. He’s also got 12 years experience in laboratory research as well, so he’s got a lot of experience here that I thought a lot of you guys would be interested in hearing about, with the different diagnostic tests that he actually does.

My attraction to Dr. Ranga is more through his unique holistic approach, where he has a blend of clinical nutritional medicine, as well as Ayurveda (the traditional medicine of India and its subcontinents) and energetic modalities that he uses like Reiki, meditation and Qigong. Like what I was saying before, he uses some pretty unique diagnostic tests to be able to work out some of the unique problems that we are all presenting with these days.

Two of these tests are called Hemaview (also know as: Live Blood Analysis or Dark Field Microscopy) and B.E.R.T.T. (also known as: Vega Testing or ElectroAcupuncture). We will explain more what it is about and what they mean in a second.

Dr. Ranga, thank you for having me here. I have been looking forward to this.

Question: What is an average day in your office, what types of clients do you see, their health issues, and the tests you perform and the prescriptions you write?

Dr Ranga: I see clients of all ages and different stages of health.  Generally, what I see is very high incidence of environmental toxicity, because we are living in a very toxic environment.  Most of the people we see or patients we see, have high levels of what I call ‘toxic burden’ which is an accumulation of environmental chemicals. My practice has kind of changed more and more into looking into this toxicity and how to detoxify and how to support the detoxification systems.

The instrumentations that I use, rather than a diagnostic, I call it more a bio-energetic assessment of the cellular health. B.E.R.T.T, which is a term that I created, is called ‘Bio-Energetic Response and Resonance Test’. What we do is we send a very small electrical signal to the acupuncture meridian because the acupuncture meridians have higher electrical conductors. We send the current to the acupuncture meridian, and then we challenge the cellular membrane or the electrical membrane potential because all of those function with the electricity. Then, if we get a response back and we get a certain value which is a 50,  that means that the intracellular environment and the extracellular environment are in good health. But if we get a response under 45, that shows chronic degenerative conditions. If it is over 55, it means all are functioning.  So, we get a very good range of 20 points, so that gives me a pattern of imbalances. That way we can address that particular pattern to correct it.

In addition to that, I look at blood and I call it Dark Field Microscopy which is a traditional laboratory technique that I have used in my medical laboratories. Now, we look at the blood through that technique where we can see the red blood cells and all the blood components very clearly in a live state. So, we look at it in a very thin layer and we can see the blood moving. We can see how sensitive the blood is to oxidative stress from chemicals, and bacterial or viral infections. So, a typical day is seeing clients who come with chronic degenerative conditions, allergies, chemical sensitivities, and fat is a very common problem. So, all can be related to this fundamental problem of oxidative stress.

Brad: So, these are the two main ways that you tend to test people.
Question: With a lot of people, are you prescribing them a combination of nutrition, supplementation, and different energetic work as well?

Dr Ranga: I always include energetic work. First of all, we know that the food is the foundation. If we do not have high quality food, non-toxic organic food, we are not building the right building blocks. So the foundation is the diet and we look at it either from the clinical nutritional point of view or Ayurvedic diet point of view based on the constitution or combination. Then, once that is done, we can look at what are the additional things that we can use as nutritional supplements to correct those imbalances. Sometimes, diet is not enough because the body has gone to a completely imbalanced state away from nature. So, we need to bring it back by adding something that can detoxify it.

Brad:
Question: Do you find that you are getting a lot more clients who are requiring more than just eating organic food to achieve homeostasis at least?

Dr Ranga:  Stress is a big problem. Emotional stress creates free radical damage. So, that is where the mental mind-body part comes in. So, I look at the body first, then I do a little bit of short Reiki treatment or short guided meditation to get them to experience what is it to be relaxed and what is it to have some piece of mind.

Brad:
Question: With these assessments, is it possible to see instant results under the microscope or B.E.R.R.T., with food, liquid, supplementation and/or energetic work?

Dr Ranga: Yes, in energetic work or healing work, you might see results but it might take two or three sessions, it may not be immediate. What I have seen as an immediate effect is with molecular hydrogen that in 2 minutes you can see if the blood is sensitive. If it is oxidized, you can see an effect immediately. Other things might take a bit longer.

Brad: What is the validity of both these techniques and the accuracy of them?

Dr Ranga: Well, this has been based on my professional experience for the last 20 years. I had very good results and reproducible results and because I come from a laboratory research background, I use as much as possible, techniques that can prevent any artificial damage to the cells. Few studies have been done with these kinds of instruments (B.E.R.R.T. / Vega Testing) developed by Dr. Reinhard Voll, a German doctor with B.E.R.T.T or Vega testing which is both similar in using the same kind of technology.

Brad:
Question: So B.E.R.T.T or Vega, was specifically made originally to quantify Chinese meridian lines?

Dr. Ranga: Yes, exactly. It is possible to detect any electrical activity in those lines. Dr. Voll has also identified meridians that are not found in the traditional Chinese medicine.

Brad: Yes, because you said that you have the possibility to be looking at 20 organ systems.

Dr Ranga: Small meridians, that are sensitive to heavy metals, chemicals, and skin—those were not found in the storage sites like fatty tissue. So, it is very useful for a practitioner.

Brad:
Question: If someone outside of Sydney was interested in trying ElectroAcupuncture or Live Blood Analysis, who would they contact?

Dr. Ranga: I am a member of the Institute of Functional Medicine. They are not like a governing body but this institute does a lot of research and they would have functional medical practitioners that they could refer.

Testing B.E.R.R.T. / Vega testing / ElectroAcupuncture

Brad: Alright, so we are going to currently use the Vega Testing or B.E.R.T.T. So, what is that doing here? (referring to a metal rod I’m holding)

Dr. Ranga: That is you becoming part of the circuit.  So what I am doing first, is to show normal skin conductance. If you look at the skin, you can see a low tone, and your reading is 25. I cannot push any further as much as I can so that stops there. So, that is the level of conductance on normal skin.

Lots of low level chatting whilst lots of beeping from the machine goes on!  Refer to Brad’s results below. ’50’ is a normal baseline reading:

Live Blood Analysis and ElectroAcupunture
‘Brad’s results using ElectroAcupuncture / Vega Testing / BERRT’

Testing Live Blood Analysis / Dark Field Microscopy

Dr Ranga pricks my finger to obtain blood. Then we view my blood…

Dr Ranga: So, normally red blood cells are well separated but we see two things: one is that ring inside (referring to inside the Red Blood Cell) which is the oxidation of the haemoglobin, so it becomes dense and the light is refracted more. The problem is the aggregation of the cells is clumping, so we see maybe medium level of aggregation. When the cells clumped like that, that means reduced surface area for the oxygen to penetrate and for nutrients to come in. We can see quite a bit of debris around like red blood cells rupturing and it could be some kind of infection—it could be a parasitic infection or white blood cells / neutrophils have been working hard or rupturing. It could be some level of uric acid being released when you see these orange-y crystals.

Brad: So, we are going to try the supplement out now which is what Dr Ranga was talking about. It is a supplement called the molecular hydrogen, and then we are going to retest it using the Live Blood Analysis.

Dr Ranga:
How about that?

Brad: Oh my god!

Dr Ranga:  Right away we can see the difference. I have tested over 400 people now. You can see the flexibility of the cells now  squeezing through, and the annular size in the middle…

Brad: Holy s&*t! … What is that?

Dr Ranga: That is a white blood cell.

Brad: Oh, my gosh!

Dr Ranga: They become expanded. This is beautiful. I love to see this!

Brad: They are huge. That is phenomenal. That looks like a different person (a different person’s blood). I don;t feel any different though…

Dr Ranga: No. But if you are going to do some training now, you might probably do it 20% more. Now, the cells can absorb all the oxygen and they have that energy.

Brad: Wow! Time for some PB’s today at the gym! That looks completely different.

Dr Ranga: Yes, there are a lot of cells but they are not aggregated.

Brad: Geez! Just from those few tablets (4).

Dr Ranga: That is why I have never seen anything like that for 35 years in Food and Nutritional Science.

Brad: That is amazing! At least, through Live Blood Analysis, you can see pretty instant results just by taking this particular supplement (Recovery). This is the one he wanted to show because it is pretty amazing with what it does. Do you have access to any other videos to what you have done to meditation, organic or non-organic food, or something like that?

Dr Ranga: No, but that was a good idea. I have not done that but it is a good thing to try to see how the food affects the body because that is the basic foundation, and it is something that I am doing.

Brad: I think that could be a good project to do. Thank you so much for letting me try this out. This is really interesting. So guys if you are living in Sydney and are interested in doing something like this, then contact Dr. Ranga at World of Health, Mosman. Else, if you live overseas especially in America and especially in the Middle East, there is a lot of people that…

Dr Ranga: If they contact me, I can find the right practitioner.

Brad: There you go, if you come, Dr Ranga will be able to help out. Thank you very much.

Note:
We at Primal Health are huge believers in getting the nutrition you need from real whole organic food first, supplements second. Since doing this experiment with Dr. Ranga, my tune has certainly changed about the power of natural supplements.  I have been using ‘Recovery’ now for several weeks since doing this and definately feel a difference espeically in the energy I have whilst working out and duration I can train for. We are now distributors for Seven Point 2 products. Should you wish to buy Recovery and buy it through this link you will be supporting Primal Health.
