I’ve just watched a great documentary on Diabetes called ‘Simply RAW – Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days’. It showed 6 people that entered a program in Arizona to just eat raw vegan food over 30 days with the goal of eradicating their issues with Diabetes and removing their dependance on insulin and other medications.
For those that are unsure what diabetes is read this excerpt from Wikipedia:
“Diabetes mellitus, or simply diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger).
There are three main types of diabetes mellitus (DM).
1/ Type 1 Diabetes results from the body’s failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. This form was previously referred to as “insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus” (IDDM) or “juvenile diabetes”. (It’s usually blamed on genetics too and thought of as incurable).
2/ Type 2 Diabetes results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. This form was previously referred to as non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or “adult-onset diabetes”.
3/ Gestational Diabetes occurs when pregnant women without a previous diagnosis of diabetes develop a high blood glucose level. It may precede development of type 2 DM.
All forms of diabetes have been treatable since insulin became available in 1921, and type 2 diabetes may be controlled with medications. Both types 1 and 2 are chronic conditions that cannot be cured….
Globally, as of 2012, an estimated 346 million people have type 2 diabetes.”

Is this anecdotal evidence i.e. small sample size? Yes, totally. However, if you have diabetes are you going to wait for a peer reviewed study of this nature to come out before you try and get Primal with your fruits and vegetables and food altogether? I should hope not. This is just another great example showing the power of food and power of the mind to heal the human body. I think the Western world has become very obsessed with peer reviewed evidence being needed for everything (myself included after my uni degree). We need science to verify anything and everything for it to be true and accepted by the main stream.
For several years now, Bex and I have been of the mindset that all dis-ease is one in the same. To take a leaf out of the book called ‘Never Be Sick Again’ by Raymond Francis (M.Sc):
– There is only ONE DISEASE = Cellular Malfunction
– There are 2 causes = Deficiency and Toxicity
– There are 6 pathways to create these 2 causes – (Nutrition, Toxins, Psychological, Physical, Genetic and Medical)
Once upon a time, when I had clients walking through my door with funky diseases, syndromes and diseases that I didn’t have experience dealing with let alone had heard of, like Lupus Erythematosus, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Ankylosing Spondylitis, I would freak out and learn as much about the problem as I could and coach the disease out of the person. Now through a holistic approach I’ve learned to coach the person who has the disease on how to get healthy from the inside out and outside in. I’ve coached them to get Primal! To get back to their roots with the Primal 6. Regardless of what the person’s problem is, I have found the majority of people I’ve ever worked with to be very unbalanced with their Primal 6. When we create balance within these 6 things, ‘miracles’ happen and people are no longer boxed in with their diagnoses.

Well, the people in this video proved that they were well on their way, after only 1 week! The Type 1 diabetic reduced his insulin needs down dramatically from 70 units per day to 5 units per day at the end of the 30 days.
Please note: if you are using insulin or oral hypoglycemics, do not attempt to reduce these without medical supervision. Do feel free to eat more real food though! Whether animal or plant based!
